Hi, Neighbor!

I’m Garrett Barnes, a lifelong Craighead County resident, educator, and community leader. Since being elected in 2022 as the youngest Justice of the Peace in our county, I’ve been honored to serve and represent our community with integrity, transparency, and engage the public in town halls every three months.

My focus is engaging the public and fellow public officials in a regional approach to addressing issues like public safety, mosquito control, road repairs, public transportation, and sidewalks that connect pedestrians to vital services. To me, the scope of government is to invest the taxes it forces us to pay into the services and projects that will have a positive impact on the most people possible.

Now, I’m asking for your support and input on what our regional focus and priorities should be. I encourage you to reach out to me via 870-897-0680 or to schedule a time we can meet for coffee. Saturdays work best for me as I am a full-time public school administrator.

A little about me...

I attended the Westside Consolidated School District from K-12 and finished my senior year of high school as our Student Council President. I’m a proud Arkansas State University graduate (Go Red Wolves!) with a bachelor’s, master’s, and specialist degree in educational leadership. While at A-State, I was a member of the Iota Theta Chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha for 4 years and served as its Academic Officer (Sigma).

As Assistant Director at the Northeast Arkansas Career & Technical Center, I’ve dedicated my professional career to helping students gain real-world skills and explore meaningful career paths that strengthen our local workforce, help attract new industries to Northeast Arkansas, and retain more of our most talented young adults right here in Northeast Arkansas.

As a small business owner and a Real Estate Principal Broker, I understand the entrepreneurial spirit and what makes Northeast Arkansas attractive to new families as they seek to build their future right here in our region.

I believe the best ideas come from conversations with the people I serve. That's why I will continue to host a free and public Town Hall every 3 months while I am in office. I hope you will attend one or all of them as we continue to build upon our ideals and values.

County Government & Regionalism

It’s important to know what your local government can do for you and what powers your Justices of the Peace hold to make a difference in our community. Transparency starts with understanding. That's why during my first term I worked with the current county administration on publishing our Quorum Court meeting materials onto the county's website prior to all of our meetings. Previously, it was just the agenda. This and the rest of our county's information can be accessed by visiting either of the below links.
