Hi, Neighbor!

I’m Garrett Barnes, a lifelong Craighead County resident, educator, and community leader. Since being elected in 2022 as the youngest Justice of the Peace in our county, I’ve been honored to serve and represent our community with integrity, transparency, and engage the public in multiple Town Halls every year.

My focus is engaging the public and fellow public officials in a regional approach to addressing issues like public safety, mosquito control, roads & transportation, and youth services. To me, government has a responsibility to invest your taxes in a way that has the most positive impact on the greatest number of people.

I want to understand what you believe our regional focus and priorities should be. I encourage you to reach out to me via 870-897-0680 or to schedule a time we can meet for coffee. Saturdays work best for me as I am on a public educator schedule.

A little about me...

I attended the Westside Consolidated School District from K-12 and finished my senior year of high school as our Student Council President. I’m a proud Arkansas State University graduate (Go Red Wolves!) with a bachelor’s, master’s, and specialist degree in educational leadership. While at A-State, I was a member of the Iota Theta Chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha for 4 years and served as its Academic Officer (Sigma).

As Assistant Director at the Northeast Arkansas Career & Technical Center, I’ve dedicated my professional career to helping students gain real-world skills and explore meaningful career paths that strengthen our local workforce, help attract new industries to Northeast Arkansas, and retain more of our most talented young adults right here in Northeast Arkansas.

As a small business owner and a Real Estate Principal Broker, I understand the entrepreneurial spirit and what makes Northeast Arkansas attractive to new families as they seek to build their future right here in our region.

Stay Engaged

I believe the best ideas come from conversations with the people I serve. That's why I will continue to host a free and public Town Halls multiple times a year. I hope you will attend one or all of them as we continue to build upon our conversations and shared values.

County Government & Regionalism

It’s important to know what your county government can do on its own as well as with other cities within Craighead County, neighboring counties, universities, public schools, private industry, and community organizations. Higher expectations for local government and officials begins with transparency of what your county is currently doing or not doing. That's why during my first term I worked with the current county administration to publish our Quorum Court meeting materials to the county's website prior to meetings. This and the rest of our county's information can be accessed by visiting either of the below links.

Regionalism is a practical pathway to pursue shared challenges such as public safety, infrastructure upkeep, and the community improvements that help attract and retain families. The Arkansas Interlocal Cooperation Act (Ark. Code Ann. 25-20-101) is what allows the Quorum Court to partner with any city within Craighead County as well as with neighboring counties, universities, public schools, private industry, and community organizations.qaszEmbracing creates opportunities for strategic investments in mosquito control, roads and trails, arts and culture, and the priorities that matter most to you and our neighbors.
